What each line of the ticket means
Age is counted the way people say it out loud: whole years, then whole months since your last monthly "birthday", then days. Someone born on 31 January reaches a new month on the last day of shorter months. The age calculator lets you measure to any date, not just today.
Zodiac sign uses the tropical dates most horoscopes use. If you were born within two days of a changeover, you'll see a cusp note: the exact switch time moves by up to a day from year to year, so check the zodiac sign calculator with your birth time.
Moon sign is calculated from the Moon's real position on your birth date. The Moon changes sign every two and a half days, so when it switched on your birthday the ticket shows both. Add a time on the moon sign page.
Chinese zodiac follows the lunar calendar, not 1 January. Anyone born in January or early February may belong to the previous year's animal. We read the date straight from your browser's built-in Chinese calendar, so that boundary is exact.
Life path is the numerology total of your full birth date, reduced to one digit but keeping the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. The life path calculator shows every step.
Birthstone and flower come from the modern lists (the American Gem Trade Association and Jewelers of America list from 1912, updated in 2002 and 2016, and the traditional flower calendar). Months with more than one option are covered on the birthstones and birth flowers pages.

Is my birth date stored anywhere?
No. All calculations run in your browser. If you tick "remember this date", it is saved only in your own browser's local storage, and you can clear it on the privacy page. The date is sent to a server only if you press the button to write a portrait or message.
How is a February 29 birthday handled?
Leap-day birthdays are shown on February 28 in common years, which is the convention most people use for celebrations. Age is still counted correctly: you turn a year older at the end of February 28.
Why is my Chinese zodiac animal different from the one for my birth year?
The Chinese zodiac year starts at Lunar New Year, which falls between January 21 and February 20. If you were born before that date, you belong to the previous year's animal.
How accurate is the heartbeat count?
It is an estimate: days lived × 1,440 minutes × 80 beats per minute. Real resting heart rates range from about 60 to 100 bpm in adults and run higher in children, so treat it as a fun order of magnitude.
