The rhyme was first printed in A. E. Bray's Traditions of Devonshire (1838). Versions differ; in some, Friday's child is "full of woe".

Which weekday are most people born on?

In countries with many planned inductions and caesarean deliveries, fewer babies are born at weekends. US birth data from the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics consistently show Tuesday to Thursday as the busiest days and Sunday as the quietest, often with around a third fewer births than a weekday.

According to the traditional English nursery rhyme, Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace, Wednesday's child is full of woe, Thursday's child has far to go, Friday's child is loving and giving, Saturday's child works hard for a living, and Sunday's child is bonny and blithe, good and gay. It is folklore, not prediction.

Does it work for dates before 1900?

Yes, for any Gregorian date from 1800 onwards. Note that some countries adopted the Gregorian calendar late (Britain and its colonies in 1752, Russia in 1918), so very old local records may use Julian dates.

What weekday will my birthday be this year?
